The Frankenstein Mod is a complete rebuild and enhancement service for the PlayStation 3, designed to overcome the common hardware failures that plague launch and early models. By replacing the original NEC Tokin capacitors with high-grade Tantalizers, stabilising voltage with a board-level mod, optimising thermal performance, and (for B00 launch models) adding built-in Wi-Fi, the Frankenstein Mod breathes new life into your console.

For units suffering from GPU instability, the service can also include an RSX swap, transplanting the original 90 nm graphics processor with a later 65 nm or 40 nm RSX. This significantly reduces heat output and power draw, while improving long-term reliability and resilience against the notorious YLOD failures.

The result is a cooler, more reliable, and fully featured PS3 that delivers the performance and stability Sony originally intended preserving your hardware for years to come.

How It Works

1. Book your console: Ship or drop off your PS3.
2. Diagnostic first: A $50 non-refundable bench fee covers inspection and syscon code readout.
3. Decision point: Based on the results, you’ll be advised whether the board is repairable and what services are recommended.
4. Proceed or return: If you go ahead, the $50 bench fee is applied toward the service cost. If not, the board is returned as-is.
